Chasing Waterfalls

A Photographer’s
Guide to amazing locations in Hamilton,

Burlington and Niagara.

Hey all!

So this is my first blog post on the new website and i’m excited to share some cool tips and tricks, locations and anything else you guys would like to know! I’m starting this blog to try and give back and inspire the next generation of creatives as i have been so i figured i’d start with something really practical.

Where to take pictures.

So i shoot in the area 6-7 days a week, if it’s not for businesses, the city of hamilton, BiAs etc i’m still out shooting for myself. This is something that i’ll probably make an entire blog post about but i believe very strongly in going out and doing and putting the time. So it probably doesn’t come as much surprise but street shooting , hiking and are some of my favorite things to do in Hamilton.

Hamilton has no shortage of amazing locations between the escarpment and waterfalls to the industrial gritty here are some of my favorite places with pictures from them. This was already getting long so it’s part 1 with part 2 in the works already:

chedoke falls

This is where the trail starts at the end of Dundurn Street

This is right off the trail and heading down the stream towards chedoke

On the way to chedoke about halfway down the stream, be careful around this part and both sides are cool and have trails

And here are the falls themselves, this is a mirrored image so this is what one side looks like.

Bayfront Park

A Popular destination for many locals, it offers a great amount of variety of looks and is an awesome place to catch sunset or sunrise! There’s often boats / canoes coming in to the northern part while bigger boats and ships dock south east. Also worth checking out Pier 4 and the skate rink and also the National Historic Site of the Haida ship from the war!

Here’ are some looks at different times of the day and year in and around Bayfront Park:

Before you get to Bayfront, you’re likely heading over a bridge and this is the view looking north from that bridge!

As you come to the entrance of bayfront park you’re greeted by this gift from the nation of japan in 2002. Beautiful cherry blossoms that bloom for a very short amount of time between march and april so if you’re around the area in that time it’s definitely worth checking out!

This is an aerial view from the north western tip of the park, a great place to sit and watch an afternoon go by and if you do so make sure you stay for some fantastic sunset views on the water.

Sunset hangs at the Bayfront gazebo.

With views like these, you can see why it’s a popular spot to take an evening walk.

Sam Lawrence Park

This park is probably where i’ve spent the most time shooting, so many sunsets and sunrises, it’s a great place during the summer to take a stroll and catch some views. If you happen to find yourself in the area on a Wednesday , Hamilton’s very own Jonny Blonde sets up the food truck and has amazing food with an amazing view.

But don’t take my word for it here’s a video i created for “Dinner with a view”

One thing i love to do either on my way to the park or on the way back is to walk down the access highway the gives you a dramatic skyline view of the city on display below.

Long exposure that i’m pretty sure i didn’t have a tripod for so probably using a log just fyi the ground here is usually pretty soggy and sliding down is easy so proceed with caution if going for a higher up angle. Regardless the views from up high or down low are both fun and one of the most inspiring places around Hamilton to spark your creativity…
